Barbershop Books works to close the reading achievement gap for young Black boys. This innovative community-based literacy initiative leverages the cultural significance of barbershops in Black communities to improve Black boys' access to engaging children's books and to increase the time Black boys spend reading for fun. Barbers in Barbershop Books sites encourage boys to read during the 10-30 minutes that many young Black boys wait for a haircut. We want to inspire life-long reading.
