Opened in 1984, SAFEHOMEhas provided services in the Kansas City area for 30 years. SAFEHOME's services continue to expand to meet the growing needs of victims of domestic violence in our community. In addition to a 12-week shelter program for women, services also include a specialized children's program at the shelter and outreach counseling services. In 2009, 140 women and 121 children were sheltered; 3,268 calls were received on the 24-hour hotline; 969 clients were helped at District Court; and over 701 clients spent over 7,779 hours in counseling through outreach services. Volunteers donated 28,235 hours in 2009.
